History
History
Pastor Joshua Ernest Tay began his ministry in obedience to the call of God upon his life through evangelistic and mission outreaches to the youth in urban and rural communities in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. In 1996, he officially launched the Errand for Jesus Team (EJT), a Christian youth missions and evangelistic organization dedicated to the task of Soul Winning, Discipleship Training, and Sending forth trained disciples as Preachers.
His works were focused on educational institutions. He therefore, started the Discipleship Training School (DTS) on Saturdays and developed the School Chaplaincy Placement (SCP) program where converts who have been discipled and trained were placed as chaplains in various public and private schools to preach and teach the gospel to their peers. The acid test of membership for the vision was a weekly preaching and teaching of the Word of God in schools. Beginning from the then sub rural Oblogo, Gbawe, Weija, Tettegu, Aplaku, Amanfrom, Oshie, Korobite in the then Ga West Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region, the vision grew and his missionary activities extended to the harbour city of Ghana, Tema, and Nsawam in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Joshua had clusters of newly regenerated youth disciples in the above three locations that he travels in turns to disciple and train, thereby raising disciples for the Lord’s heartbeat, soul winning.
He organized several Bible Study Courses for schools and awarded Holy Bibles and certificates freely. He conducted free periodic vacation camps for teens and the youths which he funded. He trained and placed his disciples as chaplains to preach the Gospel in several Primary, Junior High, and Senior High Schools in Accra, Tema, and Nsawam.
Thousands of youths were reached and discipled across Accra, Tema, and Nsawam as a result. Over the years, many of his disciples have become Church leaders, pastors, elders, and leaders in various Churches and ministries. Some still look up to Joshua Tay as their mentor and spiritual father. Among others, Orphan Care, Educational and Career Development Scholarship for deprived/rejected youth converts, Prisons Ministry were developed and operated. The organization in process of time has freely distributed over ten thousand Holy Bibles and New Testaments in the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and Volta Regions of Ghana. Joshua also later launched the campus ministry, Eagles Youth Club (EYC) in three tertiary institutions in the capital city of Accra and several Junior High and Senior High Schools. With the EYC, a social club founded upon Christian Biblical principles, he focused on youth empowerment, conferences, and apologetics. The four core values underpinning the EYC are Professionalism, Integrity, Morality, and Excellence (the PIME!).
Further, with these ministry works and its impact still counting, the Lord said to Joshua, “settle down, establish my Church, shepherd my flocks and raise up disciples thereof for me to send forth to the nations,” referring him to Luke 10: 1-2. At this time, the then sub-rural Oblogo village community was Joshua’s main missionary base for the ongoing weekly Discipleship Training School and most activities. After a week-long of fasting and prayers in April 2004 with some of his disciples, the Lord further said to him “…do not accept any of your trained disciples who attend and belong to churches into this my new church. Bring on board and use only such who are born again through you but you have not yet referred to have fellowship in any Church yet…” This direction from the Lord was a great burden/worry to Joshua. It delayed the starting of the Church from April to June, 2004. He used this period to explain the direction to his many trained and loved disciples. After the discussion, only five qualified but with one in school at a boarding house.
After a week-long community evangelism, Joshua, in sole obedience within prevailing hardships at the time launched the Glorious Harvest Ministries (G H M) Church in Oblogo in June 2004, in a roofless primary school classroom with the four available youth disciples, two of whom got born again from a strong and direct idolatry background. Out of the evangelism, three (3) more persons joined the starting of the church on Sunday making eight in total attendance in addition to Joshua but the three never turned up again.
Today, by the grace of God, under the leadership of Rev. Joshua Ernest Tay, who is an Apostle, Prophet, and Teacher, the Glorious Harvest Ministries (G H M) Church is a thriving Evangelical Pentecostal Charismatic Church headquartered in Accra Ghana and planting Churches with a global mission.
